I haven’t had the chance to make a piece like this in quite some time. I’ve been to tied up with work and other projects going on. I’m lucky to even see any free time. But some how I managed to get a couple hours to create. Not enough to do any 3D work which I’m dying to do but for now its better than nothing.

This is a small piece dedicated to our modern times of constantly being plugged in to a device whether it be for communication, entertainment, or simply gathering information. A large portion of people lived constantly being plugged in. Technology has become the root of our live. We sprout from it, grow within it and ultimately consume it.

While some become masters of this great power, some become slaves of it, Bound and constricted. Slowly losing sight of what is truly real. Falling into a realm of darkness, confusion and clouded visions.

Whether you are the one in control or the one being controlled, I hope you enjoy

Hopefully I’ll get some time to put out some 3D work very soon. My mind is exploding with ideas and I’m starting to get very backed up. Come on time, I really need you.

Name These Rag Dolls

Hey everyone. Here’s the full cast of characters for an up coming iphone title that a buddy of mine and I are working on. Not having a name is like not even existing at all. So we are giving you all the chance to voice your creative thoughts and name these characters. Each and every name will be considered so don’t think that you choice isn’t good enough because you never know.

We have a cast of 3 female and 3 male characters. Each of these little guys have their own ways of doing things and their own personalities and they all need YOU. I’ve made it very simple. Each character has a number next to them so all you have to do is write the number of the character and the name that you created for them. You can do this in the comments section below are shoot me an email if you’d like.

There is a larger version of the characters attached for you viewing convenience all you have to do is click on the image.

You know you want to name these cute little guys so don’t hesitate to. I’ll leave this open as long as I can and when we get closer to completing the game, I’ll announce the chosen names.

Rag Doll Characters

Rag Doll

Hey guys here’s a couple of characters that I’m working on for an upcoming iphone title that a friend and I are planning. These characters will most likely change slightly but the idea will still remain constant. I’m not going to reveal the idea as of yet but I’ll post more information as the project continues to develop. Since these characters are being developed by us I will probably have them make some sort of appearance in my environment project.

Here we have a male and a female character. I’ll be making some variations of each and make a few more male and female type.

Unfortunately these little guys don’t have a name so if you have any ideas go ahead and post them in the comments and your name may show up in our game. No name is to crazy or weird for me. Looking for some great and creative male and female names for these rag doll characters.

Scene Update

Hey everyone, It’s been quite some time. Don’t worry I’m still very much alive, well at least for now. I’ve been tied up with some freelance project and haven’t really had much time on my hands as of late. I still was able to pull out some time (if you can call it time) to try and do a little bit of work on my scene. Most of it is still pretty rough. The layout will and most likely be changed up a bit and there is still many assets left to make but at least its shaping up. I really do wish i could dedicate more time to this but as soon as I get that chance you know I’m taking it.

In these few screenshots you can see a basic layout developing. It’s still missing some life that has o go in it but soon enough it will flourish. I’m going to be adding some odd and wild plants in to this scene. The huge canopy trees shelter the land with a cool shade next to a soothing tranquil stream. These canopy trees don’t really use leaves to absorb the sunlight, No they have a more developed approach that is great for them while at the same time not hogging all the resources to themselves. Their “Canopy” spouts up from the top of the tree and blankets all below with a cool shade. But no these trees are not greedy. Their skin, semi-transparent, cloth like canopies allow the energy to pass right through them. They collect only what they need. Thins allows for plants below to also grow with no problems.

You can also see some glowing mushrooms. The glowing vegetation of this realms serves and a natural lighting system in the hours of the night. These mushrooms can sprout up nearly anywhere but prefer to be near trees. In many occasions you see them sprout out right from the tree itself. Small little hut like structure, created from the roots of these large canopy trees, can be seen lite by these glowing entities.

The land reveals traces of a civilization which once flourish among these lands. the small courtyard seen on the last screenshot show the earth taking back what it owns. even though the small living quarters seems to be lost in ruin there is small tracing of maintenance happening. But from what?

Foliage Scene Video Update

Hey guys. I’ve had my hands full with some client work that i have to get finished. I’m going to be dealing with that for the next week or two. I went ahead and put together a small video of the scene. It’s just to show a little more of it rather than some stills. There is a lot more coming. I’m going to try to work on it during my free time for the next couple of week until I get the client work done. Then I’ll have alot more time to work on this project. I’m having a great time with this one.

Foliage Environment Update 6-29-10

Quick Update

Hey guys. Just a small update here on the foliage scene. I spent some time creating a couple trees to add to the scene. I still have about three or four more to make so I can fill the space. Also all that empty space in the background is a result of me not making the mountains yet but once they are finished they will be in the background.

The scene will also have more variety and props in it this is just the start of it all. I’m probably going to see if I can find a way to incorporate water into here. I think water is awesome and it can be a very useful too to add some nice touches to the scene. This is all real time rendered in the Unreal Development kit.

Anyways back to work. I know I promised some progress shots and here they are. I’ll post more as the scene develops. It’ll probably only be in a few days. Til next time.

Foliage Project Progress

Progress

Just as I promised here are some progress shots of how the assets are coming along. I went ahead and created grass to fill the space and give it a more realistic feel to the space instead of just using a plan texture. I also went ahead and made four different flowers and added them as well. I may make a few more depending on if I need them or not. Also there are a couple of plants in there, I definitely have to make more to give the space a more diverse feel to it but i’ll get to those soon enough.

Everything is in a basic space until I finish created everything else. I made this space to go ahead and start testing shaders and such for the textures. I tend to see something I like them model it, texture it real nice (that’s my favorite part), bring it into the engine, work on some shaders and then drop it in to a scene and see how it looks. If I like it I continue if not I change it.

For now this is what my basic space looks like. I’m most definitely sure that it will change multiple times but for now I hope you all like it. More to come in due time.

Recent News

Hey guys it’s been a while since I’ve updated. Lots have been going on. Good Things I just recent graduated from college attaining my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Game Art and Design. I had an awesome and fun portfolio show with two great friends right before graduation. We stole the show, it was so much fun. We had playable games, great demo reel and best of all we were the first three people that everyone saw as they walked in. I also got to spend some time with my family which I haven’t been able to see in years due to school and me not taking any summers off. I was in school the whole year for four years straight. So it was great being able to see them again.

Environmental Props

Now that I am out of school I fine my self with a great deal of free time until I land a job at a studio or pick up some more contract work. So in this great deal of free time I began a project. A project that will test all that I have learned and as a way for me to channel all of that into a single scene. I’m going to be working on a very detailed environment with lots of foliage and vegetation in a ruin setting. This scene if all goes as planned or better yet when it all goes as planned should an even better indication of my abilities and what I will be able to do in a professional setting. I’m going to try and push many new techniques that I have learned to new levels. The Unreal Development Kit will be my engine of choice for this project.

As I get assets completed I will be posting and updating the blog and my portfolio gallery with still and screen capture of assets as they become complete. So make sure that if you are not subscribed that you do so so you don’t miss out on any of the updates and the development process of this scene.

Take note that these assets are not lit. They are in a default setting using default lighting. Once the scene starts coming together I’ll post up some screen shots of them. Til next time.

[Tutorial] 3DS Max Unwrapping (Hard Surface)

Objective

In this tutorial we will go through the process of unwrapping in 3DS Max. We’ll go through a method of unwrapping for hard surface objects that will make things simple while at the same time giving you full control over how you setup you UVs and obtaining high quality results. We’ll also go over the importance of keeping UVs clean and stretch free.
